On the eve of the Third World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists, it seems appropriate to recommend the following reads for the ecologically conscious, anti-capitalistic and anti destruction in the name of development.

These books focus specifically on India, but the themes remain the same, the arguments and issues are 'global'.

1. The Greater Common Good - Arundhati Roy
2. The violence of the green revolution - Vandana Shiva
3. Staying Alive - Women, Ecology and Development - Vandana Shiva
4. Power of politics - Arundhati Roy
